Teaching Wrath

Every chapter runs the same eight-part apparatus: a five-minute "Quick Teach," context and craft notes, a reading of the chapter against Homer, discussion questions tiered by level, and a content advisory where one applies. Around that sits a full teaching framework: three pacing options, grade-banding, Harkness and Socratic seminar plans, a whole-book essay rubric, and alignment to Common Core, the NCSS C3 Framework, and ACTFL's World-Readiness Standards.

About This Resource

The Wrath of Archie Ellis is a novel about the Third Battle of Ypres built as a structural parallel to Homer's Iliad, twenty-four chapters against twenty-four books, with the same argument running underneath both: what the old understanding of war assumed, and what the industrial war did to each of those assumptions. Teaching Wrath is the classroom companion built for that novel, not adapted from someone else's template. It was built chapter by chapter from the book's own scaffolding, then extended with everything a standalone teaching resource needs that a novel's own back matter never had to provide: pacing for a full term, a quarter, or a four-week unit; a three-band system so one guide serves a 7th-grade elective and an AP seminar; content advisories applied chapter by chapter; and a genuine cross-curricular reach, with alignment to English, history, and world-language standards built in rather than bolted on.
