About the Book
Nathaniel Calloway, 61, built an empire manufacturing belief at scale – an AI engine called the Index, used to shape what forty million strangers feel true before breakfast. When his own machine begins insisting on something no instrument can find, he flies out alone and crashes into an island where belief isn't persuasion. It's physics: a road holds because enough people agree it does, and a man can vanish the same way a wall does.
Stripped of every tool he ever paid for, he has to learn to make people believe him with nothing but his own voice and body – and discovers he's disturbingly good at it.
Most stranded-protagonist stories treat survival as a return to something honest and stripped down. This one refuses that comfort: the island doesn't correct Nathaniel, it hands him the exact tool he already knew how to use, and rewards him for using it. The subject isn't the island's strangeness – it's how naturally a man built to manufacture belief takes over a place where belief is the only currency there is.
Cold, controlled, and increasingly claustrophobic – closer to watching a skilled negotiator work a room than reading an adventure story. The prose stays close to Nathaniel's head: appraising, precise, occasionally breaking into something fragmented and afraid.
For readers of Piranesi, The Power, and Trust – think Lost crossed with Robinson Crusoe, if either man had built his fortune on being believed.
No ARC or free chapter yet – manuscript in progress.
